My whole world changed one night in September 1994 when my wife asked me to walk over to the local elementary school and sign up my son Daniel for Tiger Cubs. Here was offered everything I wanted for Daniel and he was so eager to take part. Now all of these years later I can see so clearly that my judgment was not mistaken. I often tell people the silver shoulder tabs I wear simply means I have already made all the mistakes, so I know what they are and can advise others away from them. But in so many ways the Scouting Movement has taught both Daniel and me what it means to live a worthwhile and fulfilling life. It will do the same for you and your son.
The resume list is long and rather boring, as most lists are…Tiger Leader, Den Leader, Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop Committee, District Committee, Cub Roundtable Commissioner, District Cub Leader Trainer; James West Award, Commissioner Award, Award of Merit, Silver Beaver. I put the list out there, though, to say to you unequivocally, “ASK ME!” Please, let’s talk about Cub Scouting, anywhere, anytime. Perhaps there are those who would say these conversations should be set aside until matters more important in our lives are addressed. But when we think about it, what is more important than the character development and social growth of our children? This, here, right now, is a special moment in our lives, and in the lives of our children. We – Dave, Brian, and I – are here for you, to help you make a difference in the lives of the youth you serve. I can’t wait to have that conversation. How can we help? Let’s talk!
